Northwest Airlines & Afterward - Mr Nicholas Bredimus

4 March 2010

Raised in New Jersey, Mr Nicholas Bredimus merged the worlds of hospitality, airlines, and software and energized these areas of business. He has been in the thick of a plethora of initiatives, from the creation of computer programs that automate resource and time intensive processes to improving aircraft safety and even designs for high value houses. Not only that but, in each case, his drive shines through. You could have predicted, of course, that with his family history he was always likely to reach distinction. Coming together from a true melting pot, his family traces all the way into ancient history, with his mother’s side emerging from Germany and Scotland. England and Luxembourg provided the home of Bredimus’ father’s family, although during the nineteenth century they would emigrate.

Even after their arrival in America, the family retained its drive and resolve to go far. One of seven siblings - four girls and three boys - Nicholas had a father employed as a mechanical design engineer, and a mother who earned her living as a nurse. Bredimus would dwell in the Lone Star State for a number of years and also spent time in Reston, VA, Kansas City, MO and Scottsdale, AZ.

Once his schooling had been completed, he found himself engaged in a few prominent jobs at several of the most acclaimed and largest businesses in the airline industry. Among these was included the vp position for Hughes Airwest, Republic Airlines, and, of course, Trans World Airlines (TWA). Most prominent, though, was his prowess as a productive programmer for the airlines.

He is probably most acclaimed for a US Airways request, inventing airplane upkeep computer programs, which eventually became the industry standard. He created several other programs for the airline and hospitality industry as well, including automatic routines to take and record flight reservations, now in use at fifty or more businesses, as well as his innovative pc based room reservation program used by the hotel sector, first put to use at more than seven hundred hotels. Afterwards would come an automated, networked approach to ticketing that stands as a first.

He parlayed these achievements into roles less connected to software development, and continued to augment his reputation in these fields as well. Nicholas Bredimus was division manager for American Express’ renowned IT wing, founded Bredimus Systems in 1993, and became the first president of American Airlines’ AMR Travel Services. Nowadays Mr Bredimus has withdrawn from his airline connections and the software development industry, although he’s still making use of his mind. He’s at work now advancing building design - matching the requirements of comfort with real ecological concern.
